PAM is the abbreviation of polyacrylamide. What roles does it play in drilling?

Secco Polyacrylamide (PAM) is an organic high-molecular flocculant. According to its ion type, it can be classified into anionic polyacrylamide, cationic polyacrylamide, nonionic polyacrylamide, and zwitterionic polyacrylamide. Everyone knows that they play an important role in wastewater treatment, and it is an efficient wastewater treatment agent. It is widely used in industries such as papermaking, coal washing, mineral processing, textile, dyeing, feed processing, petrochemicals, biomedicine, and urban sewage treatment. It also plays an important role in geological exploration and drilling. In drilling, it is mainly used as drilling fluid. It can achieve the following effects:

1. Polyacrylamide has strong flocculation properties. It can flocculate the mud, rock debris in the drilling process, forming large flocs, which is convenient for cleaning the bottom of the well.
2. PAM not only has flocculation properties, but also has good viscosity and rheological properties. During drilling, it can lubricate the drill bit and drill rod, reduce friction, lower resistance, increase drilling speed, and reduce drilling costs.
3. Polyacrylamide can protect the sol particles in the drilling fluid through multi-point adsorption, protective gel effect, and blocking air effect. It can prevent filtrate from entering the formation and causing clay water swelling, and prevent well wall collapse.
4. During drilling, due to geological structure reasons, the drilling fluid will leak. In this case, the polyacrylamide gel can be used to plug leaks in fractures and loose rock layers.
